UA Grantham Welcomes Dr. Mamdouh Babi as Director of the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — University of Arkansas Grantham is proud to announce that Dr. Mamdouh Babi has joined the institution as Director of the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology. His appointment signals an exciting new chapter for the college, one that will continue to expand opportunities in science, engineering, and technology for our students.

Dr. Babi brings to UA Grantham more than two decades of experience in higher education, research, and leadership. He earned his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Cleveland State University, a masters in Computer Information Systems from Bellevue University, and a bachelors of science in Electronics Engineering and Technology from the University of Nebraska.

Over the years, Dr. Babi has taught a wide range of graduate and undergraduate courses in computer engineering, information technology, network and computer security, data science, and analytics. His scholarly work has focused on dependable distributed systems and security, with expertise in building fault-tolerant systems through group communication, replication, and advanced transaction processing. Dr. Babi also contributed to the academic community as a reviewer, subject-matter expert, and course designer.

In his previous leadership roles, Dr. Babi served as Dean of the School of Information and Technology, Chair of the Department of Computer Science, and Program Director for several academic programs. In these positions he led strategic curriculum development, accreditation efforts, faculty mentoring, and program growth initiatives. His leadership helped foster innovation in course delivery, strengthen academic quality, and improve student success outcomes across institutions.

As he steps into his new role, Dr. Babi is looking forward to strengthening the college’s curriculum and preparing students for success in rapidly evolving technological fields. “I am honored to join UA Grantham and lead the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology,” said Dr. Babi. “This is a pivotal time for our students as they prepare to enter industries that demand innovation, resilience, and critical thinking. My goal is to help create an environment where students and faculty alike can push boundaries, apply knowledge in practical ways, and make meaningful contributions to the future of science and technology.”
