Graduate Spotlight: MSG David Jones (Ret.)

By University of Arkansas Grantham

UA Grantham graduate, Master Sergeant David Jones, recently retired from the United States Army after 20 years of service. Prior to enlisting, Jones earned his associate degree in a traditional classroom environment, but he didn't want to stop there. Earning a bachelor's degree before he retired from the military was a priority, so he could take full advantage of the benefits he received through Army's tuition assistance program. On December 19, 2008, Jones earned his Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology (EET).

He chose UA Grantham's online EET program because of the coursework and the flexibility it offered. "Having worked in the electronics field for 20 years, the EET program illuminated the how and why of everything I've seen to this point in my career," commented Jones. While in the Army, Jones served as an Electronic Warfare Intercept Systems Repairer and as a Satcom Systems Operator/Maintainer. During his tour in Iraq, Jones was appointed as Sergeant Major for the ATEC Forward Operational Assessment Team, which he said was quite an experience.

After graduating, Jones used his online degree and experience in the electronics field to secure a new position as a Senior Test Analyst with SAIC. Jones has been married for five years to his wife, Charry, and has two children, Kristopher and Allison.
