Grantham University Earns Award for Commitment to Underserved Communities

By University of Arkansas Grantham

Lenexa, Kan., Dec. 11, 2020 — UA Grantham, a pioneer in online learning, announced today that it recently received Cristo Rey Jesuit High School’s Decade of Gratitude Award, recognizing Grantham’s 10 years of service and commitment to opening the doors of opportunity for Cristo Rey students. The award was presented in recognition of Grantham’s participation in Cristo Rey’s Corporate Work Study Program.

“UA Grantham prides itself on providing affordable, high-quality online degree education to all those in the communities we serve,” said Lindsay Bridgeman, interim president of UA Grantham. “In the past 10 years, we have hosted 12 students in our corporate office. We are confident that these students left the program prepared to enter the work force or pursue higher education after high school.”

Cristo Rey’s Corporate Work Study Program allows students to finance their high school education and gain professional experience by working at a participating organization when they are not in class. The program not only provides students with real-world corporate and life skills but also provides companies with a pipeline of diverse future employees. Grantham has participated in the program since 2010 and currently is hosting two students. Grantham’s prior students have gone on to work in broadcast journalism, join Americorps, pursue higher education, and more.

“UA Grantham has made a significant and lasting impact on the lives of the Cristo Rey students they employ,” said Ted Koppo, director of Cristo Rey. "This year, Grantham has gone above and beyond expectations to provide their students with an opportunity to work remotely. All of us at Cristo Rey are most appreciative for the 10 years of support from UA Grantham!”

UA Grantham was presented the award on August 20, 2020 by John O’Connor, president of Cristo Rey and two current student interns.
