Why UA Grantham Invests in Military & Veteran Families

Why UA Grantham Is Committed to All Who Serve

Did you know that University of Arkansas Grantham was founded by a veteran for veterans? Since 1951, we’ve understood that education can truly transform the lives of active-duty and veteran service members—and the lives of their families.

Today, UA Grantham is proud to offer educational opportunities for students in and out of the military. We serve those who serve, those who have served … and the underserved. From single mothers to first-generation college students, we bring educational opportunities to those who otherwise may not have been able to pursue a college education.

And that all began by providing practical educations for post-WWII veterans. We believed then and we believe now that investing in veterans, and helping veterans invest in themselves, is good for students and good for business.

Military Friendly

As a school designed with veterans in mind, our services and programs are built to support students with a military background. Our student support services go beyond tutoring, career preparation, and financial aid: Our student advisors are dedicated to helping active-duty and veteran students, their spouses, and their children maximize their military benefits through the G.I. Bill® and transition to civilian careers.

“I was a leader in the military with two kids (one with a disability), a wife, four dogs, and several hobbies. I found time... wait, I MADE time... to earn my bachelor's and master's degrees,” says Gary Steensgard. “You must find a way to work toward your goals, and I promise you those goals become reality.”

From a generous transfer credit policy that helps service members get credit for their military training and experience to our Heroes Program, which provides a special tuition discount for those who’ve served, Grantham is committed to helping you pursue postsecondary education. No wonder we’ve received both Military Friendly and Military Spouse Friendly designations.

Championing Families

We know that when a spouse or parent is serving the country, you are serving, too. Frequent—and big—changes can mean that focusing on your goals feel difficult. You’re likely juggling a variety of schedules and priorities, making continuing your education or building a career that much more difficult.

Grantham recognizes the sacrifice and dedication family members make day after day and year after year. And that’s why we’re honored to support military spouses and children as they invest in their lives and careers through education.

"It's just the team that this university has—just continues to push you to do more," Lapeachtriss Turner says.

It’s not always easy, but we believe education can change your life. We want to make sure you get to succeed in the classroom, in the workplace, and beyond. Our 100% online degree programs and monthly starts offer the access and convenience to make meeting your goals possible.

Celebrating Heroes

For all military ranks and branches, for first responders, for licensed or certified patient care workers, and for their spouses and children, Grantham offers the Heroes Program. Eligible students receive a special tuition rate that helps make education more affordable for any one of our more than 60 undergraduate and graduate programs.

In addition, Heroes Program participants receive complimentary textbooks and software and have their technology fees waived. And they can submit Prior Learning Assessment evaluations (which helps determine and award college credit for knowledge already earned and learned) at no additional cost.

Grantham is proud to honor not just our active-duty and veteran students and their families with these benefits, but also to help them leverage their military experience, prior learning, and other skills to build successful civilian careers in a variety of fields.
