Welcome to the College of Business

Matthew Schigur Matthew Schigur
Director, College of Business

Welcome to the College of Business at the University of Arkansas Grantham. Our fully online programs let you pursue your education while continuing the work, family, and community commitments that matter to you. I am pleased that you are considering us as part of your future.

Choosing to earn a degree deserves careful thought. It requires time, effort, and a willingness to challenge yourself. For many of our students, that decision comes after years in the workplace or time away from formal education. Others are preparing to begin their careers. Wherever you are starting, we respect the commitment you are making.

As the largest college at UA Grantham, the College of Business brings together a diverse community of students and faculty with different professional experiences and perspectives. Those differences contribute to what you learn here. In an online discussion, a classmate’s experience managing employees or serving customers can give you a new way to consider a business problem. Your own questions and observations contribute to that exchange.

I believe a business education should help you make more thoughtful, informed decisions. You should be able to examine financial information, evaluate competing priorities, and explain why a proposed course of action makes sense. You should also understand the responsibilities that accompany those decisions. The choices made within an organization affect the people who work there and those who depend on its products and services.

Our faculty bring academic preparation and professional experience as practitioners and leaders in business and industry to their teaching. They help connect business concepts to the situations you may encounter at work, whether you are developing a marketing proposal, addressing an operational problem, or preparing to lead a team. Through coursework, discussion, and feedback, our goal is to help you develop knowledge you can use, and confidence grounded in your abilities.

Connection matters in online education. You will engage with instructors and classmates through your courses, and a dedicated student advisor can help you plan your studies and find university resources. I encourage you to ask questions, participate thoughtfully, and seek assistance when you need it. These conversations are part of learning.

Our undergraduate and graduate programs, including the MBA, offer opportunities to build a business foundation and pursue more focused professional interests. Your goals may involve advancing with your current employer, entering a different field, or developing a business of your own. We want your education to serve those goals while preparing you to keep learning as your responsibilities change.

I invite you to explore our programs and talk with us about what you hope to accomplish. On behalf of our faculty and staff, thank you for considering the College of Business. We look forward to welcoming you to UA Grantham.
