After 24 years of military service, I knew my next goal was to prepare for life outside of the uniform. As I transitioned to civilian life, pursuing a degree in logistics and supply chain management challenged my discipline in new ways. There were nights I had to choose between studying or other things that needed my attention but the same grit that got me through 20 years of service got me through this one . My capstone research on Walmart’s supply chain operations confirmed that the analytical skills I developed leading soldiers have direct application to the business world. This is proof that the tenets of military life can be retooled to build something new. To any veterans starting this journey, keep moving forward, one goal at a time.

As a single mom, my journey to a Business Management degree took four attempts. Life always got in the way. At 22, I paused for my newborn. Later, financial struggles forced me to quit to work. My third try was derailed by severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and knee replacements. I felt defeated, though watching my son earn two degrees filled me with pride. I then tried UA Grantham, but stopped when my father passed away. Thankfully, they reached out to me later, and I finally said YES to finishing. Today, at 55, I am FINALLY graduating! During this program, my mother passed away. It was hard to pick up the pieces and keep up the good work. I had a 4.0 average, and I had to retake a class I dropped when my Mom passed. After the fourth week of class, the instructor decided I was cheating and using A.I. She even said my discussion questions were A.I. I passed the class; however, I felt cheated and emotionally picked on. She never explained or said what part of my papers was A.I. Likewise, she never allowed me to make those papers up either. I did pass her class, and it brought down my GPA. Nevertheless, in the rest of my classes, I continued to give my all, and I was never accused of that again, and graduated with a 3.90.
